Born September 18, 1955 in Detroit, Michigan to mother: Frances Pauline Smith and father: Harold Hanes Smith. Attended Emerson Jr. High and Redford High School in Detroit. Went on to Oakland Community College where he received an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts, finishing his BA degree in psychology at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan in 1978. *Accepted Jesus as his Lord, God, and Savior March 26, 1975.
Served one and a half terms as a “VISTA” volunteer in the “Bootheel” of Missouri with the Missouri Delta Ecumenical Ministry of Hayti Heights, Missouri. Where he fell in love with the staff and citizens of the region. To this day missing them deeply! He served as a Community Organizer, a “VISTA” supervisor and he would say a “lay” minister. Formed several community groups in Steele, Missouri. He was honored to be staff assistant to the “Future Generation” youth group for two years.
Moved to attend Nazarene Theological Seminary in 1980. Married, a father of two boys, wife: Maureen, sons: Adam and Aaron. Ordained non-denominationally in 1986, and ordained in the Southern Baptist Convention in 1998 at Faith Baptist Church in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Has dual master’s degrees in ministry and counseling and the Doctorate of Christian Counseling from Bethany Theological Seminary. Has served as Associate Pastor, Senior Pastor, and nationwide guest speaker since 1981. Has worked with the Disability Movement from 1992 to 2002.
